Victim Witness Services values and appreciates those wanting to contribute their time and energy to help others. Volunteers are crucial to our ability to provide quality services to victims and our community. Volunteers provide an average of 16,000 hours of service each year. Victim Witness Services regularly offers new volunteer opportunities for individuals interested in contributing to our efforts.
Volunteer Opportunities & Eligibility
Crisis Response Volunteers
Crisis Response Volunteers provide crisis services, emotional support, and assistance to victims of crime and crisis on-scene. Volunteers are required to attend a 20-hour Crisis Response Training that covers a variety of topics including protocols, safety planning, the criminal justice system, victim’s rights, and preparation for responding to specific crimes. After completion, volunteers sign up for on-call shifts during which they are partnered with a staff Crisis Advocate. During this time, they may be called out by law enforcement, social service agencies, or community partners to respond on-scene to individuals in crisis. Volunteers who assist in Crisis Response are potentially the first people to offer services and may be the ones who truly make a difference in victims’ lives.
Eligibility to become a Crisis Response Volunteer includes:
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
- Must be available by cell phone and able to respond to locations using own transportation.
- Must successfully complete Crisis Response Training.
- Must commit to volunteer for a minimum of three months & two crisis response on-call shifts (5:00 PM – 8:00 AM) per month.
- Must agree to a criminal background check and not have a felony conviction in the past 10 years (discretion may be given depending on the criminal offense) and a criminal misdemeanor in the past three years.
Outreach Volunteers
Outreach Volunteers assist in identifying and coordinating outreach events and activities including attending fairs, community events, and tabling booths. Volunteers who assist with outreach are making a difference by connecting the community with Victim Witness Services mission and educating the community on the services provided.
Eligibility to become a Outreach Volunteer includes:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must complete volunteer orientation.
- Must be friendly, outgoing and willing to engage the public.
- Must commit to volunteer for a minimum of three months, be available to volunteer during the work week, weekends and/or special events, and attend three outreach activities per each month.
- Must agree to a criminal background check and not have a felony conviction in the past 10 years (discretion may be given depending on the criminal offense) nor a criminal misdemeanor in the past three years.
