24/7 Crisis Response
The 24/7 Crisis Response team consists of trained Crisis Responders, employees, and volunteers who respond on-scene to provide immediate crisis intervention. The purpose of 24/7 Crisis Response is to help victims and survivors process the trauma of crime and provide them with resources and services. VWS’ Crisis Responders are contacted by law enforcement agencies, emergency service providers, community partners, or by request of non-reporting victims to provide crisis management, resources, social service referrals, safety planning, and advocacy. Crisis Responder support is guided on a case by case basis by client wishes.
Activities with which a Crisis Responder may include education on immediate options, assisting with law enforcement reports or anonymous reports, arranging for forensic and/or wellness exams, engaging family/friend networks, providing help with basic immediate necessities (food, shelter, transportation to a safe location), assisting with victims compensation process, giving resources and referrals, preparing a victim impact statement, information on Victim’s Rights and the Criminal Justice System, attending initial appearance hearings, and safety planning the next 24-72 hours.
